Eurovision fans convinced Delta Goodrem will be crowned winner – but some feel conflicted

The Australian entry for this year’s song contest gave an impressive show on Thursday night, securing her country a place in the Grand Final. She sung her power ballad, Eclipse, live in Vienna, and viewers think she’ has the potential to win the whole thing. However, not everyone is happy about the prospect – some think she possesses too much experience, and that this goes against the spirit of the competition. Delta, 41, has a career spanning over 20 years which has seen her work in music, TV, and theatre. She signed her first recording deal at the age of 15, and joined the soap Neighbours a year later. The star has also been a judge on The Voice Australia and starred in the country’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, Cats. Taking all of this into consideration, Brad Stephenson said on X that despite loving her, he feels ‘conflicted’ by her inclusion. What happens if Australia wins Eurovision? Many have been asking the question: ‘Where will Eurovision 2027 be held if Australia win?’ Eurovision officials have previously said that if Australia were to win, another European country would host on their behalf due to the time difference and logistical challenges of bringing the event Down Under. Dominic Dirupo responded: ‘Should be newcomers or people under 30.’ To which Brad agreed, calling her participation ‘odd’ and stating his ‘surprise that she agreed to do it’. Ferguson Alexander expressed similar thoughts. He said: ‘I thought Eurovision was meant to be about discovering new talent. Super TV on X remarked: ‘This is giving winner. This is giving guest performer. This is giving Delta f***ing Goodrem. Guys, Australia might have finally done it.’ Australia has been part of the competition since its one-off entry in 2015, but became a mainstay after. This is the 11th time the country has performed at Eurovision. Despite scoring well in previous years, they’ve never come out on top.
