CLAPPING AS YOU LAND Beginning before you even disembark, clapping when your plane lands is a major faux-pas. Sign up for the Fabulous newsletter Thank you! While there is incredible skill involved in flying an airliner, there is still no need to applaud when the wheels touch down. And since you are more likely to die crossing the road than travelling by plane, skip this step when flying. 2. EARLY DRINKS Whether it’s the airport Wetherspoons or the all-inclusive poolside bar, it can be tempting start drinking well before five o’clock when you’re on your holidays. However, Laura recommends avoiding popping the champange too early in the morning as excessive drinking can put you in compromising situations, especially on social media. Nobody wants to be around someone who is sweating alcohol from their pores or who is talking or laughing too loudly. Most Southern Europeans will sip their alcohol rather than gulp it down and accompany it with a proper meal! Most read in Fabulous 3. FLIP FLOPS And unless you’re lounging by the beach or swimming pools, you should avoid wearing flip fops. It shows poor dress sense and a lack of situational appropriateness to don this footwear while out and about at museums, shops, or restaurants. 4. HOGGING LOUNGERS You should also avoid the divisive holiday habit of saving sun loungers for your friends. According to Laura, this is similar to letting your friends jump the queue and shows a lack of consideration and respect to other pool users or beach-goers. 5. REQUESTING KETCHUP Don’t disrespect the local cuisine by requesting items such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or chilli oil. Instead, you eat what is offered as if you were a local and not an “ignorant tourist”. 6. SOCKS AND SANDALS Socks and sandals should be avoided at all costs, according to the etiquette expert. While they may be making a comebak among the younger generation, this fashion faux-pas should not be brought on holiday. 7. SPAGHETTI WITH A SPOON Finally, eating spaghetti with a spoon and fork is a huge no no, especially in Italy. Instead, use just a fork to twirl the pasta and eat it neatly like authentic Italians do. Ignoring this advice screams “tourist” as is stacking plates for the waiting staff, adding salt to food before trying it, and putting your napkin in your collar. Comment now
