Erling Haaland hasn’t won the World Cup, but if you think about it, he has won the World Cup. Norway’s goal-pillager-in-chief has seduced the world with every weird and delightful habit and/or accessory he pulls out from behind his ponytail. A great Snapchat game. A lovely bromance with Jude Bellingham. A bizarrely high-level collection of Hermès bags. And, of course, the stuffed raccoon holding a whisky bottle he was carrying when his flight landed in Oslo Monday morning. At this point, we should face reality and change our name from Gentleman’s Quarterly to Haaland Hourly. But there's more to the man than bags and taxidermied animals, even if it's not quite as whimsical and offbeat. Like practically every footballer, Haaland is a watch guy through and through, but unlike most of his colleagues, he isn’t going crazy on Patek Philippes and Richard Milles. He’s got a steady relationship with Breitling, which he’s an ambassador for, and during his time in the States he was wearing a couple of watches from the brand. One of them is a Chronomat Automatic GMT that literally has his name on it: his initials on the second hand, and an engraved illustration of him in lotus-pose goal celebration mode on the caseback. This is a limited-edition, Haaland-ified take on a workhorse Breitling model that can work wherever, and looks nice on the wrist whether you’re a leading World Cup goalscorer or not. (The meteorite dial does look like it’s been scratched to hell in countless scraps for the ball, though.) And at $10,450, it’s a tad more affordable than most of the bags in Haaland’s leather mountain of Hermès.The other watch he was wearing to death is a little more “I am Erling, destroyer of nets." This is the Chronomat B01 42,a chronograph rather than a GMT version. The watch is slightly bulkier at 42mm rather than 40mm and made entirely of red gold. The material explains the slightly more Premier League-tier price of $48,700—it’s something you’ll notice from distance, kinda like a defender warily eyeing a six-foot-four Norwegian sprinting past you with a ball at his feet and a hungry look in his eyes. So if you want a bit of the Haaland vibe, you could carry around a stuffed raccoon with you—good luck buying one now, though—or you could get one of these two killer watches. This story originally appeared on British GQ.
