Eric DeCosta: Marlon Humphrey didn't have a great year last year, will have one this year

Published September 2, 2026 05:40 PM Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta is expecting a bounce-back year from cornerback Marlon Humphrey.DeCosta noted today that Humphrey is heading into the final year of the five-year, $97 million contract extension he signed in 2020, and the Ravens are expecting Humphrey to play very well in a contract year — after he fell short of expectations last year.“He’s in the last year of his deal,” DeCosta said. “I would say that he’s been a historic Raven in many ways. Multi-time All-Pro, highly competitive Pro Bowler, a leader here. I think he’s gonna have a great year. Had a great year a couple years ago. Didn’t have his best — he would say, I think he has said, he didn’t have a great year last year. I feel confident he’s going to rebound and have a great year this year.”It’s rare in the NFL for a player to actually play out a full five-year contract extension the way Humphrey is going to this year. Humphrey’s cap hit this year is more than $26 million, and the Ravens could have saved most of that by cutting him. But DeCosta thinks Humphrey is going to give the Ravens their money’s worth this season.“Corners are hard to find, veteran corners who have played at a very high level are hard to find, and we’re excited to see him play this year,” DeCosta said.If Humphrey can return to All-Pro form, that would mean a lot to the Ravens’ defense — and mean a lot for the next contract he’ll sign, in 2027.
