ENZO FERNANDEZ’S new squad number at Manchester City has been revealed, but he won’t be wearing a familiar figure. However, he has instead taken the No17 shirt with City. His old No8 shirt is ironically already taken by another former Chelsea star in Mateo Kovacic, who has held the number since 2023/24. That being said, City’s No17 is nothing to be sneered at. For over a decade it was worn by another ex-Blues star in Kevin De Bruyne, who between 2015 and 2025 rose to become one of the greatest and most decorated creative midfielders in the history of English football. The shirt was also worn by the likes of Sun Jihai, Jack Rodwell, Jerome Boateng and Martin Petrov. Fernandez also stuck the boot into Chelsea by referring to them as his “previous club” – echoing Enzo Maresca‘s refusal to name them – before also saying he had “always dreamed of being at a club as big as City”. I’m grateful for the opportunity. “It’s a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of. “I can already see just how big the club is.
