Variety reports that starting with the 2027 telecast, the Primetime Emmys will stream live on Prime Video in a six-year deal reportedly worth $90 million. That breaks down to $15 million per year, which is $5 million to $7 million higher than what ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox were paying for the domestic rights to air the awards show. Prime Video's deal is different, of course, because the Amazon-owned streamer is available in hundreds of countries around the world. The Creative Arts Emmys and Daytime Emmys might eventually stream on Prime Video as well, but nothing has been made official on that front yet. However, TV Academy chair Cris Abrego said he and the team want this to be more than a one-night event. "The Hall of Fame has really grown into something pretty incredible and special. That could be something," he said. "Our TV Academy Honors events. The interviews we do. There's a lot of opportunity to create content that builds to the Emmys." More to come...
