Emmerdale’s Nicola left hating Jimmy after discovering gobsmacking secret that will stun fans

| Soaps Reporter Published August 31, 2026 11:59pm Updated September 1, 2026 12:00am It is a lot for Nicola to try and get her head around (Picture: ITV / Metro) One of Emmerdale’s longest standing couples, Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), has been cruelly separated by Jimmy’s untimely death, but Nicola won’t be grieving as long as one might expect of a wife of 22 years. Jimmy met his maker after his car careened of the road and crashed into Joe Tate’s (Ned Porteous) wedding marquee on the day Jimmy was trying to make a huge romantic gesture to his wife Nicola. His crash also wiped out Joe and bride Dawn (Olivia Bromley). Dawn died in the hospital hours later, but after she gave birth to her and Joe’s baby. Nicola arrived at the site of the crash and was with Jimmy in his final moments where he gave her an eternity ring and promised they’d be together forever, but now she’s left to navigate a world without her beloved husband in it. But if she thinks she has the luxury of being able to grieve and process her loss, she’s got another brutal reality slap coming her way as she learns of Jimmy’s world-shattering deception. She grows anxious as costs mount and she decides to sell some of Jimmy’s haulage shares to help make ends meet. Oh, but there is no haulage – he secretly sold it. Nicola learns this painful fact from Caleb Miligan (Will Ash), who also reveals he paid Jimmy in cash. Jimmy then continued to run the business so that no one – particularly Nicola – would know. This rocked Nicola, but worse still is that Nicola discovers Jimmy appears to have hidden the money. She goes looking for it and it’s nowhere to be found, but in her search, she finds things she doesn’t want to know. Actress Nicola Wheeler tells us: ‘By upturning the house she discovers they are in serious debt.’ Jimmy kept a lot of secrets (Picture: ITV) Yep, she learns even more about their money worries – their home has been remortgaged and is in arrears to boot – she’s on the verge of losing her home as well as her husband. Things are beyond dire. ‘It becomes huge,’ actress Nicola W adds, painting a picture that the ripple effect of Jimmy’s death will be bigger than anyone imagined. ‘Once she starts discovering what’s been going on, the grieving process stops, and suddenly she’s thrown into doubting her husband. She doesn’t know who he is anymore.’ Oh Jimmy, what have you done?! Nicola W notes the eternity ring Jimmy gives her and previously gave her a necklace, ‘all these gifts he’s been getting but actually this other world has been going on behind her back. So, she pretty much stops grieving and her grief very quickly turns to anger, which then turns to hatred.’ Devastating. There was also £5000 found in Jimmy’s car, with no explanation. All very weird. The discoveries won’t stop there either, as the depth of Jimmy’s lies slowly show themselves.
