Then the unthinkable happened. Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity. In the devastating aftermath, Charity reported her to the police only to be told there was not enough evidence to convict. Todd claimed the sex was consensual, a simple drunken fumble after a party. Just like Jacob, Charity soon discovered that the reputation she’d built up as a community-spirited doctor acted as a shield for Todd, the perfect cover for her terrible crimes. Like the coward she is, Todd fled the village for a while to avoid scrutiny. This week, she returned to the Dales after running into Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker). Unfortunately for Todd, she was unable to simply drop Manpreet off at home and make a discreet exit thanks to Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), who gave her ex a public verbal skewering for the all the pain and suffering that she’s inflicted on Charity. Charity felt isolated and alone in the aftermath of her sexual assault (Picture: ITV) This was in hindsight a bad idea on Vanessa’s part, as it prompted a livid and humiliated Todd decided to confront Charity directly. Which brings us to tonight’s episode. The epic, final confrontation between Todd and Charity that ends with the monster losing her life. Refusing to leave, Todd takes Charity’s phone to stop her from calling for help and sneers that they need to get a few things straight. But her angry retelling of Vanessa’s outburst garners no sympathy from charity, who is glad that her ex found out what Todd truly is. Turning nasty, Todd threatens to sue Charity for slander. It gets worse. To Charity’s horror, Todd still refuses to acknowledge that what she did to her was rape and even accuses her of being in love with her. Disgusted, Charity warns her attacker never to show her face in the village again, but twisted Todd calls her bluff and insists that Charity is enjoying seeing her again. After Todd makes more threats, Charity decides there is one thing she wants from Todd – she wants her to admit to rape. Ever the narcissist, Doctor Todd rewrites history by downplaying the assault as a ‘drunken fumble’, and cruelly brands Charity an insult to real victims of rape. She makes it clear that if there’s any more slander, Charity will be hearing from a solicitor. ‘Cases like this don’t come cheap…’ Todd sneers.’…unlike you.’ When Charity refuses to be silenced, Todd threatens to tell Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) the truth about her surrogate baby; that their daughter is not Jacob’s child, but the result of Charity cheating on her husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) with Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Talk about a red rag to a bull. Charity flies at a terrified Doctor Todd, pulling her hair and pinning her to the sofa. Now the tables have turned. The confrontation (Picture: ITV/YouTube) With a scared Todd pinned to the sofa, Charity darkly remarks that this is the exact spot where she raped her. She keeps pressuring Todd to come clean. But seeing her attack powerless, weak and genuinely terrified, Charity breaks down in tears, exhausted by her ordeal.Even Todd seems taken aback. Pouring them both a glass of water, Charity opens up about how she was sexually assaulted at the age of 14 by corrupt police officer DI Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall). She recalls how the ordeal made her feel worthless and degraded, just like Todd did. Charity cannot understand why Todd did this. Not only is she a doctor, but a woman. Why would she make her feel so unsafe?’ In an impassioned speech, Charity takes her power back and lets Todd know in no uncertain terms who the real liar is as she makes an important decision. ‘Shame on me’, you said.’ Charity tells her. ‘And believe me I have felt it. But it’s not mine to carry. It’s yours and I’m giving it your back. And I am letting this go. I am letting this go. Not because I am letting you off the hook. But because I have a family and people who love me, and I’m not going to let you ruin that for me.’ Choosing to walk away, Charity leaves Todd with an ultimatum. ‘If you ever come near me and my family again, I will make it my mission to let everyone know what you did to me. You can do whatever you want. You can deny it you can threaten court. But you will still be a rapist. Because we both know the truth, don’t we?’ But she’s not the only one. Because Sarah is standing in the doorway… and she has heard every word. Sarah finally learns what Doctor Todd did to Charity (Picture: ITV) In total disbelief, Sarah struggles to process what Todd has done to her step-grandmother as Charity tries to calm her down. But Sarah will not be calmed and insists on going to the police, even when Charity relays that they cannot do anything about it. ‘So she just gets away with it?’ Sarah cries incredulously. ‘First she bullies my husband, then she attacks you?!” She demands to know what kind of monster Todd is and what is wrong with her. Don’t we all, Sarah? Evil to the end, Todd laughs cruelly insists that Charity is lying, even after everything she just shared. Fiercely protective of her step-grandmother, Sarah snaps and pushes Todd towards the door in a rage… … causing the not-so-good doctor to stumble, hit her head against the corner of the table, and tumble to the ground, blood spilling from her head. The end of Todd (Picture: ITV/YouTube) Staring at a lifeless Doctor Todd, horror-stricken Sarah reels to realise that she’s just become a killer. Meanwhile, alleged ex-copper Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) is confiding her worries about Charity’s wellbeing in Vanessa and decides that she’s going to drop in unannounced… Deals of the Day Parents can save up to 30% on Kickers school shoes ahead of the new term The back-to-school hack that's helping parents avoid queues and sold-out sizes Could your hair be wavy rather than straight?
