The Boeing 787 was parked in Montreal, Canada and being loaded for its return journey to London when the grey slide, seen normally only during an emergency evacuation, accidentally deployed. A clip of the incident on Saturday showed the slide unfolding as a Newrest catering truck was unloading at the aircraft’s rear door. According to aviation news hub Fl380, the flight was delayed two-and-a-half hours while maintenance teams worked to reset the slide and ensure the door was safe. While designed to inflate within seconds in the event of an emergency landing, the slides can take hours to restore to their original position. A subsequent flight to Newark in New York, due to be operated by that plane, was delayed by the incident.
