Infantino yesterday denied claims made by The Daily Telegraph that Uefa paid off an alleged mistress while he was the organisation’s general secretary. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! A Fifa spokesman said he “strongly denies the allegations, and they are categorically untrue”. It called the allegations part of a “concerted effort by some to undermine Fifa and its president”. Uefa confirmed a departure payment had been made to the unnamed woman, whose salary was said to have been raised at married father Infantino’s request. Infantino could be challenged in next March’s Fifa presidential election after Football Associations of several nations, including England and Wales, withdrew their endorsements. Zug 94, who play in the Swiss fourth division and have an average attendance of 400, also dodged offering its backing. When asked by The Sun if Zug 94 supported Infantino’s continued leadership, a club spokesman said: “We will refrain from commenting on this matter.” Most read in Sport Infantino switched his tax residency from Zurich to Zug in 2022.
