Elvis Costello Shares Previously Unreleased Original Version Of “I Turn Around” From My Aim Is True 49th Anniversary Edition

Last month, Elvis Costello announced a 49th anniversary edition of his debut album My Aim Is True, saying that the idea of a 50th anniversary edition struck him as "preposterous" and "made [his] teeth itch." The five-CD box set features 104 tracks, 52 of which are previously unreleased. He shared a bunch of versions of his 1977 single "Watching The Detectives," and now he's releasing the original version of "I Turn Around.""I Turn Around" was recorded solo at Hope & Anchor Studio in early 1976 with Dave Robinson, the future co-founder of Stiff Records. A different version of it previously showed up as a bonus track on his 1982 LP Imperial Bedroom. "Anyone who has heard that peppy toe-tapper will be surprised to find that the entire title refrain had first served as the chorus of an entirely different story, written 19 years earlier," Costello says in the box set liner notes.
