SpaceX plans to spend at least $100 billion on a massive new spaceport in Louisiana, setting the stage for what could become the world’s biggest launch site. Third Starship hub Location plays a major role in SpaceX’s plans. Launches from Pecan Island could head south over the Gulf of Mexico and support missions into polar or near-polar orbits. Those trajectories could become increasingly important as SpaceX expands Starlink and pursues plans for orbital data centers. The company also expects Starship to play a central role in NASA’s future lunar missions. Starbase Louisiana could help distribute Starship operations across multiple sites as launch demand grows. Texas has served as the vehicle’s main development and test center, while Florida provides another path for future missions. The Louisiana site would add a purpose-built facility designed around high-frequency operations from the start. Coastal challenges remain SpaceX will build the spaceport in a region facing severe coastal erosion. Vermilion Parish loses shoreline at rates ranging from roughly 3.3 to 23 feet annually. The company says it will work with state and federal agencies on coastal protection projects. Proposed efforts include Gulf shoreline breakwaters that could reduce wave energy and slow land loss.
