Ella Langley Breaks Record For Longest-Running #1 Hit Of All Time

It's official: Ella Langley's monster country smash "Choosin' Texas" is in a chart-history class of one. "Choosin' Texas" first reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in February — already an amazing feat for a relatively untested performer, especially in country, where radio famously gives short shrift to female artists. Other songs have knocked "Choosin' Texas" out of the #1 spot in the weeks since then, but only for a week or two at a time. The song has come to rule the Hot 100 for most of 2026. Last week, the song tied Mariah Carey's holiday perennial "All I Want For Christmas Is You," sharing the record for longest-reigning #1 hit in the 68-year history of the Hot 100. Today "Choosin' Texas" breaks that tie as it notches its 23rd non-consecutive week at #1. At this point, there is every reason to believe that Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" will retake its record at some point, since that song has reliably recaptured the #1 spot every holiday season since 2019, a situation that will likely continue unless Billboard changes its chart-tabulation rules. At this rate, however, that might not happen for a few years, as "Choosin' Texas" shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. The upper reaches of the Hot 100 have been relatively ossified for months, and new hits have a hell of a time breaking through. There's a chance that Stella Lefty's "Boston," the #2 song on the Hot 100 again this week, will eventually dethrone "Choosin' Texas," but would that change anything? And do you really want that?Once again, Ella Langley has two hits in the top 10, as her follow-up "Be Her" continues to linger at #10, while her duet partner Morgan Wallen is at #3 with "Been By Now." Karol G’s "BbY WOW," featuring Judeline and rusowsky, broke into the top 10 last week, and it continues to rise, reaching a new high of #7 this week, so that's one to watch. Adéla's viral hit "Nicole Kidman" is far short of the top 10, but this week it jumps 23 spots to #22, so that's interesting. The week's highest debut is Jhené Aiko's Kendrick Lamar collab "So Good," but that's all the way down at #26. It's possible that any of these songs could eventually knock "Choosin' Texas" off, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
