Elieser Hernández Elects Free Agency

Elieser Hernández elected free agency after being outrighted by the Braves on Friday, according to the MLB.com transaction log. Atlanta designated him for assignment on Wednesday. Hernández has had three separate MLB stints for Atlanta this year. He’s logged 11 innings of three-run ball over four long relief outings. The Braves have quickly shuttled him back off the roster each time, as he’d be unavailable for a few days after each appearance and can’t be optioned to the minor leagues. Hernández has continually cleared waivers despite having decent numbers in his limited MLB work and at the Triple-A level this season. The 31-year-old righty has started 14 games at Triple-A Gwinnett this season. Hernández has logged 66 innings of 4.23 ERA ball with a strong 26.4% strikeout rate against a league average 8.7% walk percentage. The Braves have continually brought Hernández back on minor league contracts after getting him through waivers. They’ll probably look to do so again, though he’ll return to free agency at year’s end.
