Sen.-elect Abdul el Sayed (D-MI) said he was willing to work with President Donald Trump on the issues he ran on during his campaign.“Look, I’ve never met the man; he is the president of the United States; I am the U.S. senator-elect from the state of Michigan,” el Sayed said Sunday on ABC News. “I am happy to meet with him.”Trump has been outspoken against el Sayed, calling him a “vicious, violent jihadist” ahead of the midterm elections. ABC News’s Jonathan Karl pointed out that the president had criticized New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani similarly, but later worked with him. Karl asked el Sayed if he believed a similar situation would occur now that he’s been elected. “I’ll meet with anyone who can advance the goals I ran on — to get money out of politics, put money in pockets, pass Medicare for all,” el Sayed said. “I’ve said this: If he wants to pass ‘Trumpcare for All,’ which will guarantee healthcare to everyone, and put his name on it like he’s putting his name on everything, I’m game.”El-Sayed won his midterm race against Republican Mike Rogers during an election cycle in which Democrats took control of the House and the Senate after flipping multiple seats. After securing the majority in both houses, Democrats have set their eyes on Congressional oversight of the president’s agenda.EL SAYED SAYS HE WILL WORK WITH TRUMP: ‘HE CAN READ THE TEA LEAVES’Trump has expressed willingness to work with Democrats on bipartisan deals, but has reiterated his ability to veto legislation he disagrees with. El Sayed has already supported Trump’s announcement to cut aid to Israel, and acknowledged other issues he hopes to pursue, including ending the Iran war and tariffs.“So I haven’t had any outreach; I’m happy to sit down with him to talk about how we can serve the Michiganders who just elected me,” el Sayed said.
