What is making meteorologists particularly concerned is the timing. The Pacific warming has reached these extraordinary levels in August, even though El Nino events typically continue strengthening until November or December. Climate models suggest further warming remains possible during the coming months.The simultaneous weakening of the IOD and strengthening of El Nino could have major implications for rainfall patterns across India.While eastern India, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, continues to receive active monsoon rainfall due to recurring low-pressure systems from the Bay of Bengal, large parts of northwest and central India have experienced prolonged dry spells.India's seasonal rainfall departure currently stands at around 13% below normal, reflecting the uneven distribution of rainfall across the country.Weather experts note that the atmosphere is now entering largely uncharted territory.
