There aren’t many single-player games that can boast the player counts that Cyberpunk 2077 pulls in. As we approach the sixth anniversary of its release, not only are tens of thousands still frequenting Night City every day, but its player count on Steam just hit its highest peak since 2023. Cyberpunk Hits Its Highest Player Count Since The Launch Of Phantom Liberty CD Projekt Red At one point on Sunday, there were more than 187,000 of you playing Cyberpunk at the same time, and that’s just on Steam. CD Projekt’s latest game is also available on PlayStation, Xbox, and now Switch 2, so the total across all platforms would have comfortably surpassed 200,000. Steam is the only platform for which we have solid player count numbers thanks to SteamDB. According to those numbers, the peak Cyberpunk hit on Sunday is the highest it has achieved since October 2023. That last spike came right after its 2.0 update and the launch of its massive expansion, Phantom Liberty. The game didn’t quite break 200,000 concurrent players on Steam as it did back then, but hitting a three-year high without DLC to point to as the reason behind it is mighty impressive. 187,000 of you flocking back to Cyberpunk over the weekend didn’t happen for no reason though. There are three things you can point to for the spike. Why Everyone Is Returning To Night City The first, and most obvious, is the release of Edgerunners 2. Season 2 of the Cyberpunk anime spinoff is now on Netflix, and clearly many of you were either reminded of how much you love the game after watching the new episodes, or inspired to play it for the first time. Reason number two would have helped with the latter two, as at the time of Sunday’s spike, Cyberpunk was 70% off on Steam, reducing its price to an all-time low of $17.99. The release of Edgerunners 2 and a significant price cut were paired with an unexpected update. A big one. The main thing the update added to the game is elements from the new season of Edgerunners, so again, it’s the animated show that’s largely responsible for attracting new fans to Night City, and convincing lapsed fans to slip back into the role of V. It’s amazing to think just how far Cyberpunk has come after what might have been the most disastrous launches in triple-A history. The game was so plagued with problems on consoles that PlayStation delisted it for months and refunded anyone who bought it through the PS Store. Six years later, it’s considered one of the best games of all time across every possible metric, has a hugely successful anime spinoff, there’s a sequel on the way, and a live-action movie is in production.
