EastEnders confirms why Craig is suspended as true extent of complaint revealed

Craig Ingram (Matthew James Bailey) received an almighty shock when he was summoned to the station, where he was met with an unexpected update about his future. The detective, who has been leading the investigation into who attacked Joel Marshall (Max Murray), had a lot on his mind ahead of the meeting after uncovering that Amy Mitchell (Ellie Dadd) is the culprit he’s been looking for. Amy, as viewers know, had told Craig about how she was the one to hit Joel with a hammer – and she soon questioned if she’d made the right choice in confiding in him. Having already withheld from evidence the video the teens recorded of Joel being tormented, Craig feared losing his job – and this latest development exacerbated such concerns. When Amy asked to meet, Craig agreed to rendezvous in the park, where he made clear that knowing about her role in Joel’s assault has put him a very difficult position. The detective then received a message from his superior DCI Reynolds (Kevin Fuller), who wanted him at the station for a meeting. Craig reckoned it was good news – but little did he know what awaited him when he got there, with subsequent scenes revealing to viewers a bit more about the newcomer’s past. ‘You moved to us at Walford because of a complaint issue as part of the arrangement to keep you on full duties?’ said a stern Reynolds. Craig nodded and speculated that the meeting was because his name had been cleared. But this was not the case. In fact, it was the opposite. Craig was told that he’s been suspended (Picture: BBC / Jack Barnes / Kieron McCarron) ‘There have been developments that are adverse to your situation’, continued Reynolds. ‘A further complaint [has been made]. I’m therefore serving you with a regulation 17 notice for gross misconduct. ‘You’re being investigated for gross misconduct, relating to honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct between January and July 2026.’ A confused Craig stated that he did not understand, which prompted the DCI to reveal it has now been alleged that he ‘engaged in inappropriate relationships with a female officer’. Craig claimed such allegations were untrue but Reynolds was not finished, revealing that he had considered deployment to a non-public facing role but didn’t think it was ‘sufficient’ due to the ‘severe nature’ of the allegations against him. Craig was therefore suspended and forced to hand over his radio, warrant card and work phone and laptop. With Craig now off the Joel case, just where does this leave Amy?
