East Godavari district registers first COVID-19 case in 2026

The first COVID-19 case has been registered in the East Godavari district on Sunday after a 21-year-old youth has been tested positive for COVID-19 in Rajamahendravaram city. This has been the first case reported this year.“The 21-year-old youth is being treated in Government General Hospital (GGH) in Rajamahendravaram city,” East Godavari District Medical and Health Officer Komala told The Hindu.On the preparedness for the COVID-19, Dr. Komala said that a ten-bedded COVID-19 ward with a team of doctors and staff has been arranged in the GGH-Rajamahendravaram. “All the Area Hospitals, Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres are equipped with a five-bedded facility dedicated for the COVID-19 screening and treatment across the East Godavari district,” Dr. Komala said.
