With Linux 7.3-rc1 out this week and marking the end of the merge window, it's onto a lot of Linux 7.3 performance testing at Phoronix and looking at all the new features of Linux 7.3. In today's article is a first look at the AMD EPYC Turin server performance on Linux 7.3-rc1 compared to Linux 7.2 stable with a few nice performance improvements to show. From my testing thus far of early Linux 7.3 development kernels the most exciting work from a performance aspect has been the better Btrfs performance. Other file-systems hadn't benefited as much compared to Linux 7.2 in that file-system specific testing. In today's article are more well rounded benchmarks and a first look at the sever performance using a 5th Gen AMD EPYC server. Today's testing was with an AMD EPYC 9455P 48-core server running on a Supermicro H13SSL-N build with 12 x 64GB DDR5-6400 memory and a Samsung MZWLO3T8HCLS PM1745 PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS was running on this Supermicro EPYC server while Linux 7.2 and 7.3-rc1 were loaded up. The same GCC 15.2 compiler built each kernel and using the same kernel configuration with just using the defaults for all the new Linux 7.3 Kconfig additions. Pretty straight-forward testing so let's see how Linux 7.3 is looking on this AMD EPYC server. Linux 7.3 kernel benchmarks on other hardware are also in the process of being carried out at Phoronix.
