Earl Spencer's wife has praised her husband following the official publication of his new book about his sister, the late Princess of Wales. Professor Cat Jarman, who became the fourth Countess Spencer in May this year, applauded the Earl's 'resilience and determination' in facing the memories – both 'glorious' and 'utterly heartbreaking' – in an Instagram post. She said she was 'incredibly proud' of the Earl for writing Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which has been serialised by the Daily Mail, and offered insight into the unforgiving writing schedule the Earl apparently set himself. The Countess, 44, wrote: 'I’ve been endlessly impressed by your resilience and determination this past year, from the moment you decided to go ahead with this project. 'All those mornings you got up at 4am to write; some days the memories you unearthed were glorious, others they were utterly heartbreaking.' Professor Jarman shared an image of the Earl typing on a laptop in what appears to be a room at Althorp, the Spencer family's ancestral home in Northamptonshire. And very damning, particularly about me,' he said. 'I come across in the most despicable manner imaginable. There's just one problem. Spencer had apologised for the error on Tuesday but stood by his account that Mr Morgan was 'surly and annoyed' when he called the journalist to tell him he was not welcome at Diana's funeral.A statement said: 'Earl Spencer's account of his conversation with Piers Morgan is accurate.'Mr Morgan was surly and annoyed when Earl Spencer called personally to tell him that he was not welcome at his sister's funeral.'The book then records Earl Spencer's assumption that Mr Morgan's response was because he was editor of the Daily Mirror when the Mirror Group had published highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym.'The photographs were published by the Sunday Mirror on November 7, 1993. Mr Morgan has pointed out that he did not join the Daily Mirror until October 1995.'As a historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer. He therefore wishes to clarify that his assumption was incorrect.
