Eamonn Holmes’ TV host ‘replacement’ forced off air over health condition as husband reveals he’s ‘crashed’

EAMONN Holmes’ ‘replacement’ is taking time off from hosting the breakfast show after his body “crashed”. It read: “As many know, Stephen has lived with T1 Diabetes since the age of 17. “He’s been a workaholic for 35 years, spending 25+ of them on the 3am–10am shift, but he has finally crashed. He just needs a bit of time to get through this and will be back next week.” Stephen is one of a roster of presenters who have stepped in for Eamonn to present the weekday breakfast show since he suffered a stroke. He is best known for hosting alongside Ellie or Anne Diamond from Friday to Sunday every week. Most read in Showbiz Speaking in 2023, Stephen opened up about being “tired” of his Type One Diabetes. He said: “As much as my specialists’ marvel at how well controlled I am and, to be honest, heap praise on me when I’m being checked out, 31 years in and I AM TIRED. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes The most common symptoms of type 1 diabetes are: peeing more than usual, especially at night feeling very thirsty and drinking more than usual feeling very tired losing weight without trying to or looking thinner “It is a constant drain. Always checking, always monitoring, always calculating. Sometimes it does just get you down. “Sometimes I would just love a pizza without worrying that I’m going to feel ill for 24 hours after, I’d love to indulge over Christmas without the same concerns. “Or I’d like to go for a walk, or a swim without worrying that my glucose levels will crash through the floor making me feel like I’m about to peg out. “I have mentored lots of young people over the years, tried to dispel their concerns over what their futures hold, and I’ve done with the very best of intentions, but for the first time ever, I get a sense of their despair.” Eamonn not been on air since March 11 – when he sparked concern after appearing to fall asleep during an interview with Darren Jones, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister. The star later hit back – and said he was not nodding off, he was just “looking down” at his mic pack. He took some time off, but just days before he was meant to return to the show he was hospitalised.
