Eagles take 8-6 lead over Giants into halftime

Published November 8, 2026 02:44 PM The first half of Sunday’s game between the Giants and Eagles was a pretty dull affair, but it did feature a very memorable punt. Eagles punter Braden Mann had to boot the ball away from his own end zone with seconds to play in the second quarter and he crushed a kick that sailed over Giants punt returner Charlie Jones’s head. The ball wound up going out of bounds on the Giants’ 6-yard-line and went into the books as an 86-yard punt. That’s the longest in the NFL since the 2001 season and it assured the Giants would take a knee rather than try to score some late points before halftime. That left the Eagles up 8-6 in their bid for a 14th straight home win over their divisional rivals. Former Giant Saquon Barkley scored the only touchdown of the day when he sprinted into the end zone from three yards out in the first quarter. The Eagles made it 8-6 on a Joe Milton sneak after a penalty allowed them to try for two points from the 1-yard-line. Barkley has 10 carries for 22 yards and Milton has run for 24 yards while going 8-of-14 for 87 yards. Milton also lost a fumble on an Arvell Reese sack and the Giants first-rounder added a second sack later in the half. Giants quarterback J.J. McCarthy moved the team to two field goals on their first two possessions, but the Giants punted four times while picking up one first down over the rest of the half. McCarthy has been sacked five times with Zack Baun getting him twice and the Giants have just 16 rushing yards on 10 attempts. That offensive futility on both sides helped make Mann’s punt the biggest highlight of the first 30 minutes in Philly.
