In case you missed it, the PIF, and two other companies — Silver Lake and Affinity Partners — entered into an agreement with EA back in 2025 to acquire the company, with the PIF set to receive a 93 percent stake, making it the largest owner by a country mile. It’s an acquisition that has received plenty of pushback, with many calling on governing bodies to halt its completion, but with Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner involved in both Silver Lake and Affinity Partners, it was never going to receive any real scrutiny in America. The EU Has Approved the PIF's EA Acquisition EA That made the European Union one of the biggest hurdles that this consortium of investors would have to overcome to get the acquisition through the door, and based on today’s announcement, it seems like they haven’t had much trouble. In its daily news bulletin (thanks Eurogamer), the EU explained that the merger was reviewed via standard procedure, and was cleared as it deemed that it would “not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on competition in the markets where the companies are active.” Basically, it went through because the acquisition doesn’t change a whole lot. While not strictly complete just yet, the EU was most likely the final hurdle before getting the acquisition over the line, and it now seems like the deal will go ahead as planned. A great time if you’re part of the PIF, but not so great if you’re quite literally anyone else.
