Sign in to your ScreenRant account EXCLUSIVE: The remainder of the Dutton family are not getting back together for Marshals season 2, yet. In the wake of Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone coming to an end, the hit neo-Western franchise moved forward with two spinoff sequels in the form of the Luke Grimes-led Marshals and Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser-starring Dutton Ranch, each of which proved to be viewership smashes for CBS and Paramount+, respectively. With their separate productions and on-location shooting, neither show has united Grimes and Reilly's sibling characters for a crossover, though the season 1 finale of the former teased a journey to the latter's area. Now, ahead of the show's October 4 return, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Spencer Hudnut to discuss Marshals season 2. When asked about the chances of a Dutton Ranch crossover in the new season, particularly as the season 1 finale set up a potential trip to Texas to save Brecken Merrill's Tate, the Yellowstone spinoff showrunner confirmed "we've been talking about that" since the inception of both shows, saying it is "definitely a goal" as fans "deserve to see Kayce and his sister back together again." However, Hudnut confirmed that Marshals season 2 will not include said crossover, explaining that "the logistics of when and how and where" it will happen is proving "a little trickier" for both shows. He also confirmed that the Texas set up from the season 1 finale was meant to be "a good tease" of how the crossover could happen and "an easy way to reunite people": Spencer Hudnut: But, I think there's always definitely a possibility of putting them together down the road. The fact that I have worked very closely with the guy who's now running that show, we have a shared past, might make that a little bit easier. But no, everybody wants to see Kayce and Beth reunited at some point. So that is a shared goal. Much to Hudnut's point, the possibility of a crossover between Marshals and Dutton Ranch has been at the forefront of Yellowstone fans' minds since both shows were announced. While the mainline show's ending still had both branches of the Dutton family still living in Montana, albeit Beth and Rip moving on from the original main camp, the pair's home and land burned down in a wildfire in the Paramount+ spinoff's opening episode, sending them to Texas and making the chances of a crossover trickier. Even still, prior to Hudnut's above comment, both teams have remained dedicated to the chances of bringing both sets of characters back together at some point. Grimes more recently indicated that he and Reilly continue to text about a Dutton Ranch and Marshals crossover, calling it a "necessary" thing for both of their characters, given that, apart from Tate, they are the last of the Dutton bloodline, and therefore need to lean on each other. While Hudnut seemingly wrote the Marshals season 1 ending with the purpose of setting up a trip to Texas, it is understandable that season 2 ultimately couldn't pull off its Dutton Ranch crossover from a logistics standpoint. Filming on the first season of the Beth and Rip-led spinoff concluded in March 2026, while production on season 2 of Kayce's didn't kick off until May, thus creating a long enough gap that Hauser and Reilly may have become busy with other projects to immediately return. Even still, while the Dutton siblings may not be reuniting in Marshals season 2, the show has confirmed one major Yellowstone crossover in the form of Jefferson White as Jimmy, the former ranch hand of the Duttons who, in season 5, left to move to Texas and work on the Four Sixes and marry Emily. While it's unclear exactly how Jimmy will return, including whether he will be part of Kayce's potential journey to Texas to save his son, it is very clear that Hudnut and his team remain just as dedicated to keeping prior characters' stories alive as much as telling new ones.
