Duo remanded on firearms, robbery, related charges

(Photo Credit: Jenique Belgrave / Barbados TODAY) Two Christ Church men have been remanded to Dodds Prison after appearing in court on firearms, ammunition, robbery and other charges, among them escaping a police station. Tyrese Leroy Farrell, 23, of Ealing Park South, and Raequan Jacobi Jones, 23, of Lot 4, Bournes Land, St Christopher, both of Christ Church, appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court jointly charged with being illegally in possession of a firearm and 14 rounds of ammunition on August 11. Also within the Oistins District B jurisdiction, the duo is accused of robbing Linda Nicholson of a chain valued at US$2 500 (BDS$4 950) and Doreen Riley of three chains valued at US$2 800 (BDS$5 544) on August 9. Jones was separately charged that, two days later, on August 11, knowing Farrell had committed the arrestable offence of robbery, he harboured Farrell in order to prevent his apprehension and prosecution. No pleas were taken as acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick read the charges. Farrell was separately charged with, and pleaded not guilty to, assaulting and resisting Police Constables Antonio France and Jarad Hepburn, and assaulting Sergeant Ramond Welch in the execution of their duties on August 16. You Might Be Interested In Farrell is also solely accused of having 15 rounds of ammunition without a valid permit on August 11. In addition, he faces six charges in the District A division. These include robbing Rojae Collins of $10, a $650 cellphone and a motor car valued at $9 000 belonging to Jason King on July 18; robbing Chad Boyce of $675, a $950 cell phone, a $150 pair of pants and a car key valued at $500 on July 25; robbing Nicholas Phillips of $500, a $1 050 cell phone and a $100 pair of pants on that same date; escaping from Hastings/Worthing Police Station without the use of force while being a person in police custody on August 14; and assaulting Police Constables Jerome Eversley and Nathan Burrowes in the execution of their duties on August 16. He was not required to plead to the offences. The duo will return to court on September 17. (JB)
