Published Jul 30, 2026, 7:01 PM EDT Sign in to your TheGamer account Dungeons & Dragons has announced the tabletop game's first Universes Beyond crossover: World of Warcraft. Many will recognise the label from Magic: The Gathering; Universes Beyond has become a major part of the trading card game's ecosystem, with more crossover sets releasing than in-universe ("Universes Within") sets. Set to release on November 17, Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft is a gameplay expansion book that will enable players to create campaigns set in the world of Azeroth. Universes Beyond: World of Warcraft Arrives In November "I've been playing World of Warcraft almost since the beginning, so I was super excited to have this project to work on," said principal game designer James Wyatt in a media pre-briefing attended by TheGamer. "I've been adapting World of Warcraft to the tabletop for almost as long as I've been playing. This is an awesome opportunity for fans of World of Warcraft and D&D to explore Azeroth in a whole new way." The gameplay expansion is 256 pages in length, and features 11 new species. Combining the new playable species with pre-existing races that already exist in both D&D and World of Warcraft (Gnome, Orc, Elf and so on) means that every race in the MMO is now playable in Dungeons & Dragons through official materials. Also included are 9 subclasses, 6 brand-new ones and 3 built from existing material. The expansion also delves into iconic Azeroth locations, such as Orgrimmar and the Icecrown Citadel. Legendary characters like Arthas, Jaina, Thrall and Sylvannas will have full stat blocks in the gameplay expansion for use in campaigns. There will also be 50 new spells brought over from World of Warcraft, 50 new monsters and 23 factions with unique renown reward systems. Sounds a lot like playing a tabletop MMO, doesn't it? Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft will release with several cover variants, a Dungeon Master's screen and a map pack. The gameplay expansion is now available to pre-order. The appearance of Universes Beyond may scare some, but I imagine the backlash will be less heated than we've seen in the Magic: The Gathering community because players have been transplanting established settings onto Dungeons & Dragons since the game's very inception, so licensed content is unlikely to upset many. Original Release Date 1974 Player Count 2+ Age Recommendation 12+ (though younger can play and enjoy) Length per Game From 60 minutes to hours on end.
