Nearly everyone who plays it loves it, but it comes up in conversations about the best games from that era less than it should, i.e., not every single time. The game was visually stunning back in 2005, and that was only improved further by the PS3 remaster and the PS4 ground-up remake, really leaving a legacy in the genre that deserves its stellar reputation. As such, any time a new game comes along that has similar shades of potential brilliance, it's worth paying attention to, and one in particular could be worth your time. Over on the PlayStation store, you should be able to find the listing for gen ATLAS, an open-world action-adventure game from Fumito Ueda, creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. The big hook of the game is that it features an enormous robot, immediately evoking shades of the old classics. In the description of the game, the developer shared a little more about what fans can expect: "Without knowing why, you awaken on an abandoned planet. Before you lies a vast, silent world. Colossal structures stretch over endless plains, deserted facilities, and an ever-changing sea. The remnants of some grand design litter the planet’s surface. "As you journey deeper into this strange world, a colossal robot awaits. Its overwhelming power opens paths to places once beyond reach, transforming your conception of the world. Across an endless expanse of time, the remnants of those forgotten constructs begin to move once more…" It's certainly a mysterious and intriguing premise, and that lack of concrete information has always been a hallmark of Ueda's work. It's up to the player to uncover where they are and what's happening as they go, and gen ATLAS looks like it's going to be no exception at this early stage. The only caveat to what already looks like a genuinely exciting project is the fact that it doesn't have a release date just yet, though there's every chance we hear more on that before the year is out. There's no doubt that PlayStation and Sony need a bit of a win right now, given all that's going on, and if gen ATLAS can come anywhere close to Shadow of the Colossus, then this could be the turning point they are looking for.
