The movie adapts Frank Herbert's 1969 second novel, Dune Messiah, completing the complex story arc of Paul Atreides and the various factions found in his universe. There are obviously plenty of other books to adapt if there's somebody willing to do it, but Vileneuve has confirmed he will be stepping back after this release, leaving any future continuations as very unlikely. While we wait for that, there is another release coming down the pipeline that's considerably more interactive, and could easily be the best of the bunch. Dune's Story Continues Beyond The Upcoming Movie Those of you who have been keeping up with the world of board games recently will likely have heard of Dune: Imperium, a thematic strategy release that blends deck-building and worker placement. Now, as revealed as part of Gen Con 2026, the Conspiracy expansion is on the way, and it links up with Paul at a time when powerful enemies are attempting to take him down. In sharing what fans can expect from the new release, developer Dire Wolf games gave the following product description: "The reign of Paul Muad’Dib has ushered war across the Imperium. How can one oppose an Emperor who can see the future? Now, after years of bloodshed, powerful enemies plot his downfall — and have somehow found a way to shroud their complex plans. Paul faces his greatest challenge: the unknown. "Wield political and military might in this expansion for both Dune: Imperium and Uprising. Harness Conspiracy cards with potent benefits that can last throughout the game. Conduct raids on planets throughout the Imperium. Bend your strategy to the changing demands of Imperial Edicts. Try the new Overthrow Mode, where one player becomes the Emperor and stands alone against two or three united opponents. Plot your own Conspiracy!" It's one of the more interesting periods covered in Herbert's works, and to see it translated to this format makes a lot of sense. This is the second expansion we have seen for the game so far, and if it can replicate the success of the first, then it should be well worth buying if you already own the base game. Dune: Conspiracy Is Set To Launch Soon We don't have too long to wait to play Dune: Imperium - Conspiracy, with the game set to release around the same time as the latest movie towards the end of the year. Between now and then, it's just going to be a case of sitting tight, but if you are a Dune fan, the holiday period could be very exciting indeed.
