Drishyam 4 confirmed after Drishyam 3 success, says producer Antony Perumbavoor

Mohanlal's Drishyam franchise is officially set to continue with a fourth instalment. Producer Antony Perumbavoor confirmed the development at the Mazhavil Manorama Awards, where he said Drishyam 4 will be made following the success of the third film. Describing the announcement as something he was saying from his heart, Antony made it clear that another chapter in the franchise is on the way.The confirmation comes a few months after the release of Drishyam 3, which hit theatres on May 21 and went on to become a blockbuster. The film marked the return of Mohanlal as Georgekutty, the central character of the franchise, and crossed the Rs 100-crore mark within days of its theatrical release. However, despite its commercial success, the film received mixed reactions from audiences. The Drishyam story began with Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 Malayalam film, which introduced Georgekutty as an ordinary family man caught in an extraordinary situation. His desperate attempts to protect his family after a life-changing incident formed the core of the crime thriller. The film became a major success and eventually spawned a sequel, Drishyam 2.Unlike the original, Drishyam 2 initially premiered directly on OTT before later getting a theatrical release. The sequel expanded Georgekutty’s story and set the stage for the third instalment, which arrived years later. The franchise has also travelled well beyond Malayalam cinema. The original Drishyam was remade in several Indian languages and also received adaptations in international markets, including Chinese and Korean versions.When Jeethu Joseph hinted at Drishyam 4Director Jeethu Joseph had previously spoken about the possibility of a fourth film and revealed that Antony Perumbavoor had been encouraging him to keep thinking about the franchise even while working on earlier instalments. In an earlier conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Jeethu recalled how the producer repeatedly pushed him to think ahead. “They said to keep thinking about the story; after the first, keep thinking about the second. Then, while shooting part two, he said let's start three. Now he's saying, 'I think you should work on the fourth one',” the filmmaker said.Jeethu, however, had stressed that he did not want to rush into another sequel simply because Drishyam 3 performed strongly at the box office.
