Drew Starkey Is on an A-List Outfit Heater

After wrapping up his star-making five seasons playing Rafe Cameron on Outer Banks earlier this year, Drew Starkey has wasted no time leveling up. With a slate of upcoming projects including not one but two promising A24 joints and a (rumored) role in Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho remake, Starkey is, in the parlance of the ’biz, going places. He’s also well on his way to becoming one of the best-dressed guys in Hollywood.Wearing a head-to-toe designer look may seem simple enough, but in reality it’s one of the bigger swings one can take in the menswear world. Getting it right requires not just picking the right pieces but wearing them in a way that looks effortless and natural, as if you assembled the look from your own closet. Fortunately for anyone interested in taking on this sartorial challenge, Starkey’s recent outfits provide a perfect illustration of how to nail it.Starkey’s hot streak kicked off on The Tonight Show in late July, with a head-to-toe Dior look seemingly designed to prove that yes, you should definitely wear that pink shirt, ideally tucked into a pair of stonewashed jeans. To be fair, as an ambassador for Dior, Starkey has one of the hottest collections on the planet to pull from, but as previously mentioned, going all in on a single designer is still risky, even if that designer happens to be Jonathan Anderson.Amy Sussman/Getty ImagesJason Howard/Bauer-Griffin“Me and Drew have worked together for a long time now and have a great vibe when collaborating,” says Starkey’s stylist, Warren Alfie Baker, whose client roster also includes Andrew Garfield and Love Story’s Paul Anthony Kelly. “He loves a vintage vibe, so we like to lean into that and let it feel relatable—the Dior just felt like a cool ’90s throwback look.”The Fallon look was no fluke, though. Starkey subsequently rolled up to Saturday’s Netflix “Pogues For Life” watch party wearing an equally dialed-in Dior ensemble, this time featuring a boxy cream sport coat, dark denim, and a pair of funky Dior Médaillon Loafers.JC OliveraJamie McCarthy/Getty ImagesAny remaining doubts were decisively quashed a few days later when he arrived for his spot on The Today Show wearing the same jean-and-loafers combo with a denim overshirt (also Dior, naturally). Anderson’s penchant for wider silhouettes and workwear-inspired details makes the pieces easily wearable (at least compared to his more outré creations), but Starkey nonetheless looks as if he’s stepped out for a coffee run in his most lived-in jeans and button-down.Starkey’s facility with single-designer looks doesn’t end at Dior, either. He looked equally natural in full Dries Van Noten at SiriusXM's Front Row and in Ralph Lauren at Netflix's End Of Summer Bash earlier this week. “The Dries felt like it would have been something George Harrison or Paul McCartney could have worn to record at Abbey Road,” says Baker of Starkey’s oversized blazer and trousers combo over a striped tee. He’s right, but still, easier said than done.
