Dramatic moment raging half-tonne bull leaps over safety barrier into crowd as terrified spectators scream in arena

The six-year-old beast, named Malacara, was being goaded by a Portugese bullfighter in the Plaza de Toros de Murcia ring when he suddenly flew into a fit of rage. Shocked visitor Juan Perez, who was seated a few rows back, said: “I saw it with my own eyes, the bull jumping over the fence into the crowd. “The animal was out-of-control. It was extremely lucky that nobody was injured. “There were women in those seats and they were close to being gored by the bull’s horns.” Terrfied audience members were spared death and injury only by a second concrete barrier at the bull ring. Officials herded the bull back into the sandpit arena to continue the fight before executing the animal according to tradition. This was needed to finish the bull. “The crowd cheered for the bullfighter to be awarded an ear, which the presiding judge refused, so Fernandes received an ovation instead.” An ear is a “trophy” cut from the body of the dead bull, awarded for especially skilled performances. The bull Malacara had twice previously jumped into an exit alley during the annual bullfighting festival. The half-tonne beast was the final fight of the annual Murcia event. Officials said that Malacara had originated from the Los Espartales ranch. He was assigned to a Portuguese bullfighter named Duarte Fernandes. Gruesome bullfighting festivals have seen a spate of horrifying injuries. Earlier this year a young matador was flung into the air and gored multiple times by a raging bull during Madrid’s annual bullfighting festival. Tomás Angulo, 24, was left fighting for his life after the horns of the beast ripped through his body and left him with 10-inch deep wounds. Comment now
