Someone at Capcom has clearly read the fan mail I’ve been sending them, because today’s free patch for Dragon’s Dogma 2 includes a surprise bit of content: outfits and custom pawns of Laios and Marcille from Ryoko Kui’s beloved cooking manga Delicious in Dungeon. If you haven’t read or watched Delicious in Dungeon (or, as it’s known in Japan, Dungeon Meshi), this might seem like the most random collab of all time, a bit like when Nintendo put a literal Mercedes-Benz in Mario Kart 8. But trust me, it’s a perfect crossover. Both Dragon’s Dogma and Delicious in Dungeon take a lot of inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons—and I’m now just realizing as I type this that the abundance of double-Ds in the last sentence probably isn’t a coincidence. The free armor sets of both Laios and Marcille fit perfectly in Dragon’s Dogma 2 too, although, um…the official Laios and Marcille companion pawns do look a little off. Reminds me of the Delicious in Dungeon episode where the party gets replaced by shapeshifters. And hey, even if you don’t care about this collab in the slightest, at least having Laios’ armor in the game means we finally get a wearable backpack! Considering a wearable backpack is one of the most popular mods for the game, I’m sure this will be huge news for all the non-Delicious in Dungeon fans. More importantly, however, this implies to me that Capcom isn’t quite done with Dragon’s Dogma 2. Obviously we just received the Dark Arisen expansion, but most of us assumed that was the last piece of new content the game was going to get. Perhaps a new expansion is a stretch, but maybe we could expect some more cute little anime crossovers like this down the line? A Frieren tie-in certainly feels perfect for the world of Dragon’s Dogma. Plus, the first game had an official Berserk collab, so it would only feel fitting for the sequel to get one too. In the meantime, you’ve got until January 27, 2027 to add the DiD elements to your game.
