Dragon Age: Origins Decompilation Project Could Fix The Official PC Release

Dragon Age: Origins Fans Are Fixing The Game Themselves Because The Official PC Version Is Busted Published Sep 11, 2026, 8:32 AM EDT Dragon Age: Origins is one of the best games of all time. It is also really, really hard to recommend to people who haven't played it already, because the PC version - which is, in theory, the best way to play it - is busted. Game crashes, memory leak problems, corrupted save files... Dragon Age: Origins hasn't fared well over the years, and it's in desperate need of some updates to get it up and running again. It isn't too hard to get the fan-made fixes installed, but even those can fail you sometimes, especially as your save file gets bigger. Really, what we need is for the foundations to be fixed. That is exactly what six Dragon Age fans are doing. The Dragon Age: Origins decompilation project seeks to get a fan-made re-release of the iconic RPG up and running, which will be easier for fans to bug-fix. If they can pull this off, it's basically the closest we will get to having the source code, which should mean getting a much more stable build of one of the most influential RPGs out there - and with more features. This Dragon Age: Origins Re-Release Could Give Us Multiplayer Reddit user Shot_Let_1344, one of the developers on the decompilation project, gave us an update on how everything is going behind the scenes. They say that they are 60% complete, and hope to be at 90% next year. "This is a huge milestone on the way to being able to make some changes to the game," the dev says. "64bit support, engine bug fixes, potential net support and co-op campaigns, as well as official controller support on PC!" It's wild to hear that we won't just get an improved PC build, but one with features that were never in the official release. Co-op games in particular would be a ton of fun - I know there's more than a few of us in the fandom who like to come up with "joint" world states with our friends. This would be a great way to make that a reality. "At our current rate, we think we can get the decompilation to ~90% in another year, at which point we will release it publicly," we're told. "Decompilations are a huge undertaking, but we have a very good understanding of the Eclipse engine, and most of the game's general logic." If you have any interest in the series, this is certainly one to watch. We have a few examples of how great a decompilation project can be once it's complete; just look at the unofficial Sonic Unleashed PC port we got last year. There are also some fans working on something similar for Fable 2, so we could finally see that come to PC, too.
