DPWH to begin rehab of key Naga City road this July

INQUIRER FILES MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin rehabilitating M.T. Villanueva Avenue, one of Naga City’s major traffic choke points, in July, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Monday. In a press briefing, Castro said the rehabilitation could serve as a pilot project for other urban areas in the country. “Wider and obstruction-free sidewalks, well-designed bike lanes, bright solar street lights, tactile paving, and accessible curved ramps for persons with disabilities—these are just some of the things commuters can look forward to,” she said in Filipino. Villanueva Avenue will focus on promoting active mobility, including active transportation, the DPWH said in a video posted on Facebook. “People don’t want to walk because there are no proper sidewalks,” Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo wrote in Filipino in the post.
