Downfall of Russell Brand the rapist: The swaggering sex predator fawned over by the Left is facing many years in jail, financial ruin and new charges

Sex predator Russell Brand could face new rape charges within weeks after he was convicted on Thursday of attacks on four women. The 51-year-old actor and comedian faces years behind bars – and could lose his £16million fortune in a slew of civil claims on both sides of the Atlantic. He was convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting three others, and now it can be revealed that the Crown Prosecution Service is considering bringing further charges after he was accused of two more rapes, including that of a 16-year-old girl.Described in court as a sexually voracious 'monster' bent on achieving his 'goal' of bedding 5,000 women, Brand closed his eyes in the dock as the jury condemned him.His sobbing wife Laura crumpled in the public gallery, holding on to an aide's hand for support as the verdicts were read out and Brand mouthed to her: 'I love you.'Brand's barrister Ian Winter, KC, asked for the father-of-three to be given time over the weekend to explain his conviction to his children, but Mr Justice Bennathan remanded him into custody, warning he faces a 'lengthy custodial sentence'.The defendant was then led to the cells after gesturing to his lawyers, 'I'm OK. I'm good.' His conviction was set to cause major embarrassment for figures on the Left, including Andy Burnham and Ed Miliband, who previously courted Brand.Labour recruited him to the cause during its doomed 2015 election campaign under Mr Miliband as he chased the young vote. Russell Brand, 51, could face new charges within weeks after he was convicted of four sexual offences Brand was described in court as a sexually voracious 'monster' bent on achieving his 'goal' of bedding 5,000 womenIn an explosive trial that lasted just under four weeks, Southwark Crown Court heard how the comedian and actor raped a 21-year-old fan at his £2.3million Hampstead home in 2009, pushing her face-down on the bed and leaving her bleeding and struggling to breathe.Between 2004 and 2009 he pounced on three other women. He groped one at a radio station, one in a Soho bar and put his head in the lap of a TV worker during a Channel 4 project.Yesterday detectives appealed for more Brand victims to come forward as it emerged that officers have already submitted files of evidence in the hope of bringing new charges.Prosecution papers, which the jury did not see, reveal that Brand faces the prospect of 'outstanding charges' over his relationship with a schoolgirl he is accused of raping after grooming the virgin when he was aged 30.Known by a pseudonym in a Channel 4 Dispatches programme which exposed Brand in 2023, 'Alice' claimed that a BBC car took her from school to the star's house where she was later abused.During their three-month relationship, Brand called her 'my little dolly' and she had to punch him to stop one attack, she alleged.BBC bosses will face questions after Brand previously boasted that his boss, Lesley Douglas, then the BBC's controller of Radio 2 and 6 Music, was 'incredibly tolerant' of his inappropriate sexual behaviour while he was a star presenter. In his memoir, he claimed this included allowing him to use the BBC's disabled toilets for sex with 6 Music competition winners. Brand stands while listening to Judge Mr Justice Bennathan at Southwark Crown Court, London, as he is found guilty of raping one of his fans and sexually assaulting three womenA tearful Ms Gallacher leaves court without her husband, who was remanded in custodyQuestions will also be asked of Channel 4 executives who turned a blind eye to Brand's sordid behaviour, allowing him to commit sex attacks in plain sight. Detectives considered whether to bring charges against others in the entertainment industry, including Brand's aides, for enabling or assisting his crimes, but decided that there was not enough evidence. At least two other women came forward to accuse Brand of sexual abuse before the trial, but the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to proceed with their allegations.Detectives believe that his conviction will be a 'watershed moment', giving women the confidence to come forward.Brand is already facing civil claims in Britain and America. Here, a High Court claim has been lodged by a woman seeking £100,000 in damages. She says Brand forced himself on her at his LA mansion in 2008. The 23-year-old fled half-dressed in terror after he allegedly pushed her onto his bed and tried to perform sex acts against her will. There is also a separate lawsuit in New York. Brand is accused by an extra in the 2010 romantic comedy remake Arthur of exposing himself to cast members before sexually assaulting her on set. Yesterday's verdict paves the way for victims to sue Brand, which could leave him virtually penniless. Brand sits with his bible as he is interviewed by police in July 2025Photographers clamour to get a picture of Brand as he is taken from court in a prison van Once one of Britain's most popular stand-ups, he could also face prosecution in the US over separate claims of rape and sexual assault. Brand's US lawyer, Mark Cuccaro, has said his client has a 'reasonable belief criminal prosecution is possible in the US based on allegations tantamount to criminal sexual misconduct'. Despite the onslaught of claims, Brand arrogantly assumed he would be acquitted. He commissioned a film crew to record his movements and musings about being in an 'aquarium pool dock' in anticipation of producing a documentary about the 'unfairness' of his trial.Outside court, Brand recorded self-serving podcasts blaming the media for his fate and he attempted to block his trial going ahead, smearing journalists as 'criminals' for exposing his predatory attacks. In one recording with his wife, in matching leopard skin dressing gowns, Brand even praised far-Right rabble rouser Tommy Robinson for his 'passion' and 'bravery' days before the ex-EDL leader was convicted of harassing Daily Mail journalists at the same court. But when it came to it, Brand was unable to persuade anyone save his long-suffering wife to testify in his defence at court. In an act unlikely to have endeared his client to jurors, Mr Winter opened Brand's case by saying no one would 'touch him with a barge pole'. Ian Winter KC, Russel Brand's barrister, exploded at a Sunday Times journalist in court whose investigation led to the victims coming forward Brand was for years able to abuse women with impunity through his celebrity statusAfter a three-year police investigation, Brand's unravelling defence was over in just a day.Following a catastrophic turn on the stand when he admitted to jurors that his story had changed, lawyers rang ex-girlfriends in desperation. But the two women who submitted statements the morning after Brand's disastrous testimony were hardly ringing with praise. Both spoke of his constant cheating and even his wife couldn't deny having had her heart broken in the early stages of their relationship by his constant womanising.Jurors heard that the then-aspiring actor sponged off his girlfriends and could not be relied on to pay rent or bills until he became famous. It made for a dismal defence of a man who was once known for his supposed charm and charisma.Brand even got a statement from Andrew Sachs's granddaughter, Georgina Baillie, but it was decided that reminding jurors of that scandal would hardly help his case.We speak to the detective who brought down Russell BrandHi, I'm Alex Matthews, Editor of The Crime Desk.Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and three sexual assaults - and our reporters Caroline Cheetham and Liz Hull were in court every day to witness it all. They sat down with Detective Inspector Laura Nelson who revealed why the women who accused him in the infamous documentary were not involved in his rape trial. Subscribe to The Crime Desk to listen to the podcast. In October 2008, Brand was forced to quit Radio 2 after he and his co-presenter Jonathan Ross left a lewd message on the phone of the Fawlty Towers actor disclosing that Brand had had sex with Ms Baillie. On Thursday night she told Channel 5 News he needed to 'tell the truth and make amends'.When Brand gave evidence, the comedian once known for his verbosity appeared lost for words at times, stumbling in his explanations, his lips moving wordlessly before he haltingly answered questions. In desperation, Mr Winter closed his case by reeling off a series of rape myths, saying Brand could not be guilty because the victims did not scream, kick, slap him in the face or accuse him directly of rape. But his speech, which horrified rape campaigners, failed to persuade jurors, who took just over eight hours to find him guilty.Minutes after the conviction, his furious barrister launched a foul-mouthed tirade at the journalist whose investigation exposed Brand.Mr Winter confronted a Sunday Times journalist, saying: 'I hope you are pleased with yourself.' When the journalist answered: 'I'm pleased justice has been done,' Mr Winter snarled: 'Well, it wasn't. You f***** it. Congratulations.'Later, Sunday Times editor Ben Taylor said: 'He's impugning the integrity of the entire case.'Yesterday, Victims' Commissioner Claire Waxman said she was seeking to update the law to ensure juries are warned against 'rape myths', as she criticised 'outdated and harmful assumptions' that victims must have screamed or tried to fight off their attacker.Deniz Ugur, of the End Violence Against Women coalition, added: 'It is really appalling to see defence lawyers intentionally lean into a whole range of tired tropes and myths about rape.'A spokesman for the domestic abuse charity Refuge said: 'It is deeply troubling that professionals in the justice system continue to perpetuate harmful myths about abuse.'Brand will be sentenced on Monday. He was acquitted of two rapes and one attempted indecent assault.READ MORE: I covered every day of the Russell Brand trial... no amount of prayers were ever going to save himREAD MORE: The wife who stood by Russell Brand's side: How 'mummy blogger' Laura Gallacher – and her golfer father Bernard – supported comedian during rape trialREAD MORE: Beginnings of Brand's depravity: How his sex-obsessed father Ron paid for a prostitute for his 17-year-old son – sparking a lifelong compulsion to use and abuse women: ALISON BOSHOFFREAD MORE: Russell Brand's strange entourage of God-fearing misfits who attended court with him every dayREAD MORE: Brand's Florida reinvention as a 'saviour in swimwear' who preached on the beach, baptised young women in the ocean and cosied up to MAGA and the manosphere
