Despite being best known for portraying Superman in the DCEU, Henry Cavill also dipped his toes into the MCU when he appeared as Wolverine, and he could still reprise his role in Avengers: Secret Wars against all odds. 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine surprised everyone with its ambitious cameos, featuring Jennifer Garner's Elektra, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and even Chris Evans' Johnny Storm. Seeing these seemingly forgotten characters back in Marvel's limelight and even featuring in the MCU was a treat, but Henry Cavill's blink and you'll miss it cameo as Wolverine was the one making headlines. During Deadpool's search for a replacement Wolverine, he found all kinds of variants across the multiverse, most of who were played by Hugh Jackman. However, Henry Cavill portrayed one version, which was a real shock for viewers. Although James Gunn's DCU has since ended Cavill's run as Superman, the actor became synonymous with this flagship hero and even returned in Black Adam just two years prior to Deadpool & Wolverine, adding to how much of a surprise his involvement in the movie was. Sadly, he was restricted to little more than a cameo, appearing in one scene only, yet all hope of a return isn't lost. With Avengers: Secret Wars seemingly acting as a soft reboot for the MCU, all gloves are off when it comes to the 2027 film, meaning we could see just about any version of Marvel's characters pop up. More importantly though, one unexpected Deadpool & Wolverine character has already been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday — Gambit. Channing Tatum's version of the popular X-Men member seemed like he'd be a one-off in Deadpool & Wolverine, yet he's featured in Doomsday's trailer, leaving the door open for another Henry Cavill Wolverine cameo. Gambit's Role In Avengers: Doomsday Is A Good Omen For Henry Cavill's Wolverine Return Gambit was by far one of the funniest parts of Deadpool & Wolverine, as Channing Tatum delivered a memorable performance as the iconic X-Men character. For some, it may have been a little too comedy-focused, but given the nature of the film, it made sense for Tatum to go all in on giving the audience something to laugh at. Considering the actor had been desperate to play this character for such a long time, it was nice to see him get his moment, but no one expected him to be back after Deadpool & Wolverine. Therefore, his confirmation for Avengers: Doomsday came as a welcome surprise, since Tatum will likely get to flaunt Gambit's more serious side. Doomsday's trailer showed him fighting with Shang-Chi, suggesting he won't just be a bit-part player in the upcoming Avengers movie, and will instead get a more significant role. As a result, there's no reason to believe Henry Cavill's Wolverine can't do the same, especially as they were both used for a similar purpose. Deadpool & Wolverine really gave a spotlight to forgotten or unused characters such as Tatum's Gambit and Cavill's Wolverine, which seemed to be the case since they presumably weren't coming back. However, Marvel clearly liked Tatum's version of Gambit enough to give him another outing as the mutant, so the same could happen with Cavill. Seeing as the Brit is no longer involved in DC and doesn't have another MCU role, it would be incredible to see him back as Wolverine in Secret Wars, especially across from Hugh Jackman's beloved version. Thankfully, what seemed like little more than a dream scenario now looks possible thanks to Avengers: Doomsday's cast. What Kind Of Role Henry Cavill's Wolverine Could Play In Avengers: Secret Wars In a world where Henry Cavill does come back for Avengers: Secret Wars, it remains unclear how his Wolverine would fit into the plot. The most obvious answer is that he'd be involved in one of the various fights that will take place during the movie, as he could be taken from his timeline and brought to Battleworld for this intense conflict. Perhaps we could see a brand-new version of the X-Men fighting alongside him against the current X-Men, or we could see Cavill's Wolverine take on Hugh Jackman's. Likewise, he could always battle other familiar heroes or some alternate version of villains, in a minor bout that acts as more of a cameo than anything else. Cavill's take on Logan could also be a way of highlighting the power of whoever Secret Wars' villain ends up being. Perhaps the antagonist in question could be seen killing him with relative ease, or at least finding a way to cause him some sort of torment, even if this Wolverine doesn't end up involved in the main confrontations. With no MCU movies releasing between Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, the stakes heading into the 2027 blockbuster look as though they'll be huge, allowing for some major shocks. Therefore, Secret Wars could use Cavill's Wolverine in a number of ways to create tension without actually losing a central character. Given the multiversal nature of the project and the endless possibilities, it's hard to see a reason Henry Cavill couldn't return one more time as Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars, which would give fans something to look forward to, even if he only gets a small part.
