Donald Trump slaps 10% tariff on UK as he launches new tax attack after losing Supreme Court fight

DONALD Trump has slapped a 10 per cent tariff on the UK as he has another crack following defeat at the Supreme Court. The US president has hit 60 countries with between 10 and 12.5 per cent taxes following a five-month probe into forced labour practices by trading partners. A senior administration official told Politico: “Today’s action is the most sweeping international labor rights action the US has ever taken – that any country has ever taken.” Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! Trump had only slapped a 10 per cent tariff on the UK on Liberation Day with some countries being stung close to 50 per cent. And despite signing a trade deal in May 2025, he has threatened to slap other duties on the UK economy since then. Just last month he warned that he will hit the UK with a 100 per cent tariff if London levied a digital tax on American companies. The move is the latest escalation in the global trade war waged by the US. Other countries that have fallen victim alongside the UK include Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Indonesia and Jordan. It comes after the US Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that many of the tariffs imposed globally under emergency powers were illegally enacted. Most read in The Sun Trump has since sought other legal avenues to push through his flagship trade policy. Both Democrats and Republicans in Congress have been calling for the eradication of forced labour from global supply chains, “so we’re really responding to that call.” An official added that Trump would “always use the tools at his disposal to achieve his trade policy objectives, and that includes tariffs.” Last month, he said on Truth Social: “Numerous European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies. “Some of these Countries are close to actually doing this. “Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America. “This TARIFF will supersede Trade Deals made with the Country, whether implemented, signed, or not. “Additionally, the 100 per cent TARIFF will be immediately imposed, if they proceed.” Comment now
