Dolly Parton on course to land her first-ever UK number one single after her death at 80

DOLLY Parton is finally set to land a UK number one in the week following her death. The iconic country songstress, 80, is being remembered throughout the globe this week after it was announced she had died from a brief, private battle with cancer. The Official Charts Company has reported that early indicators show her in line to have three spots in the UK Singles Top 10, with workplace anthem 9 to 5 in poll position. On top of that, Dolly is currently is also holding number two with her 1976 hit Jolene – which hears her plead with a beautiful woman “don’t take my man” – and number six with Islands In The Stream, a love duet performed with Kenny Rogers. Counts run from Fridays through to Thursdays each week, so there are still a few more days for things to change, but the Tennessee Queen could finally land the overdue accolade. Currently, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s Rein Me In maintains the top spot, and has spent 23 weeks at number one since its release, though multiple other tracks are fighting to knock it off its perch. Dolly’s niece Jada Star, who featured on her famous aunt’s 2024 album, Smoky Mountain DNA: Family, Faith and Fables, performed The Orchard.
