Thankfully it doesn’t take long before the happy spaniel is back up and running. Typically episodes last from a few seconds to a few minutes, before normal movement resumes. Little Gösta was diagnosed with the rare condition at just nine weeks old, but his owner is determined to give him a full and happy life. Sharing clips of Gösta in a heartwarming TikTok video, they wrote: “Sometimes eating can trigger cataplexy, sometimes it doesn’t. “Sometimes play can trigger an episode, and sometimes it doesn’t. “He doesn’t just have narcolepsy, he has a life.” Most read in Fabulous In the sweet videos, the black-and-white dog can be seen on walks, carrying sticks and playing with other dogs. While they claim Gösta is living his best life, they admit that they often have strangers worried about him when he passes out. They wrote: “People see Gösta collapse and become genuinely frightened. Some think he’s dying. “Others think he’s having a seizure, or that something terrible has happened to him. “I’ve lost count of how many strangers have stopped us to ask if he’s okay. And I understand them. “Because when you’ve never seen narcolepsy or cataplexy before, it can look absolutely terrifying.” They added that they wanted to share clips about Gösta to show what canine narcolepsy can look like. The owner shared: “I also want people to understand that the collapse is only one small part of Gösta’s life. “I’m showing the moments that look the most dramatic because those are the moments people need to see in order to understand the condition. “But I never want those moments to become all people see when they think of Gösta. “Because he is so much more than his collapses.” Gösta’s @thecockerspanielpuppy account has clearly struck a chord with internet users, with the account racking up 75,000 followers.
