Disturbing update after missing 11-month-old found dead as cops release mugshot of babysitter charged with murder

A TEEN babysitter has been charged with murder after an 11-month-old boy who vanished while allegedly in his care was found dead. He has been charged with murder, first-degree criminal abuse, tampering with physical evidence, abuse of a corpse and first-degree possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The horror case unfolded after cops were called to a disturbance on Harrison Avenue in Central City at around 5.10pm on Saturday. Officers spoke to Grayson’s father, who reportedly told them his baby son was supposed to have been in Mayes’s care while he was at work. Police said Mayes initially claimed during an interview that a family friend had picked up the 11-month-old at around 10pm the previous night. But investigators tracked down the woman, who allegedly told officers she had not collected the baby, local outlet WBKO reports. A relative also reportedly told cops Grayson had last been seen with Mayes at a property on Hillview Street in the Cleaton community on Friday. The conflicting accounts sparked a desperate investigation into the youngster’s whereabouts. Most read in The Sun Officers carried out further interviews before obtaining a search warrant for a home and vehicle on Harrison Avenue. While searching the property, cops allegedly discovered suspected methamphetamine inside a bedroom. Court documents claim officers spotted a shard of suspected meth inside a dresser drawer belonging to Mayes. Mayes’s mother allegedly told investigators the bedroom was where her son stayed. Police then secured a second search warrant covering a home and vehicle on Hillview Street, where Grayson had reportedly last been seen. Tragically, officers found the 11-month-old dead inside the Cleaton property while executing the warrant, police said. Authorities have not disclosed Grayson’s alleged cause of death or further details about the circumstances in which his body was discovered. Mayes was arrested and taken to the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. The Central City Police Department said: “The Central City Police Department extends its condolences to Grayson’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time.” Cops also thanked 15 other agencies and emergency services for their assistance during the investigation, including state police and the FBI. The department added: “This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
