Disney's latest fantasy horror is back for more chaos. Disney+ has a wide range of movies and series that are perfect for October on the countdown to Halloween. Titles such as 1993's Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and the animated short Toy Story of Terror provide the perfect backdrop for the spooky season. However, one new fantasy horror series has dominated the streaming charts and arrived just at the perfect time. Now, its fate has officially been decided. Disney's new series Coven Academy is officially returning for season 2 following a tremendous reception from audiences and outstanding critical acclaim. The news was announced on social media with the caption, "Ready for more magic? Coven Academy Season 2 is coming. Catch up on Season 1, now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu." Coven Academy is a supernatural teen drama created by Tim Federle, and boasts 21 streaming chapters within its first season. The series follows "three teenage witches and their dangerously charming warlock peers at an elite magic boarding school where power is currency, secrets are lethal and attraction is a liability. Caught between ancient supernatural wars and forbidden love interests, the coven must decide how far they’re willing to go to protect their city — and themselves." Coven Academy's cast includes Malina Pauli Weissman, Malachi Barton, Jordan Leftwich, Ora Duplass, Louis Thresher, Tiffani Thiessen and Devon Sawa. When speaking with Variety, star Weissman stated: "I am so excited for a Season 2. In every show, in Season 1, you get to know the characters; you get to know the world; you get to know the baggage that everybody is carrying. In a Season 2, you get to actually just live in it and see what happens. I hope that Briar keeps being confused about the two boys. I hope that she continues to figure herself out, and I hope that the three girls just have a lot of fun with life. The show is about identity, so I hope each and every one of them keeps making bad decisions and good decisions and see where that takes them." Disney revealed that Coven Academy season 1 reached 20.3 million hours watched globally only three weeks after its release on Disney+ and Hulu. The first streaming chapter was released on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, where it reached over 30 million views. Nielsen's charts also indicated Coven Academy was the most-watched streaming series among teens aged 12-17 through its premiere weekend. ScreenRant's review of Coven Academy season 1 stated, "Coven Academy throws magic, murder, and teenage chaos into a whirlwind that somehow makes its messy friendships the most enchanting part of the story." Critics praised the new series, and it earned a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave a rating of 72%, with hopes that season 2 could continue much of what was praised after its debut. At the time of writing, it's unclear when Coven Academy season 2 will arrive, but season 1 is available to stream on Disney+ now. Release Date October 1, 2026 Network Freeform Directors Tim Federle Cast Coven Academy follows three teenage witches and their warlock peers at a prestigious magical boarding school in New Orleans. As power and secrets intertwine, they navigate supernatural wars and forbidden romances, each choice impacting their city and destiny.
