Disney Hands ‘Ice Age,’ ‘Percy Jackson,’ and More to Netflix

If you don’t have Disney+ but want to legally watch Percy Jackson & the Olympians, good news: now you can via Netflix. Thanks to a recent agreement struck between the two companies, Percy and other Disney media is on everyone’s favorite streamer. Starting Monday, October 4, Percy’s first two seasons will join the latter platform ahead of season three launching in November, joined by the five Ice Age movies. (The sixth movie comes out in February.) In 2027, this’ll expand to include Disney Animation and Pixar flicks like Soul, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Elio. None of the licensed media will be Disney+, for those concerned about losing some faves. The aim just appears to be widening the scope of specific titles to those who can’t or won’t keep spreading their budget on multiple streamers. In the case of Percy Jackson and Ice Age, the benefits are clear. As for the movies, they get another chance to find an audience that might not’ve been there the first time. (Raya came out mid-pandemic, and Elio had a troubled production and bad marketing.) Sadly, this deal appears to be one-sided, so nothing from Netflix is swinging over to Disney+. Tis a shame, but that’s licensing for you. [via Variety] Want more io9 news?
