There's something special about Terry Pratchett's unique brand of irreverence that really sings, and the fact that each book is so different (and provides a unique glimpse of the universe) really adds to its allure. It's no wonder it's still in the zeitgeist over 40 years later, as the fantastical setting and quirky characters are still memorable to this day. If you're a fan, you're in luck, as one major release is slated to come out soon. According to an update from Modiphius,Discworld: Readers Digest is coming out next month. Coming in November, Discworld: Readers Digest is a tabletop rendition of the Discworld universe, set in the Unseen University library (a fictional location in the city of Ankh-Morpork). Since Discworld fans are heavily invested in the lore, here's the entire setup for Reader's Digest: "Reading Week has arrived, and it’s the most terrifying time in the Unseen University calendar! Panicked wizards-in-training have stormed the Library in a last-minute frenzy of panic-studying, and naturally, everything has gone horribly wrong! Shelves are empty, rogue tomes are on the prowl, carnivorous books are hunting in packs, and the students themselves are... Ah, well... being students. As one of the Assistant Librarians of the Unseen University, it’s your thankless duty to restore order: rescue those wandering trouble-magnets while wrangling the wayward books, and get them out of the Library and on their way to their exams, all while navigating L-Space and coping with a worrying shortage of bananas." The gist is that you'll move around different locations in the library to capture and shelve runaway books, represented by book cards. You need to complete sections of the library, rescue students, and lead them to the exit. If you save enough of them, you "win the Librarian's favor," and thus, the game. When you restart, you'll shuffle the library tiles and rearrange them in a different order. It also hosts an action/click-based economy, where you can bolster your collection or boost actions like rescuing students or better movement options. It's aimed at 2-4 players and takes roughly 60 minutes to complete on average. Pre-orders are looking to ship by the "end of November 2026," and the price is roughly $59.99. Here's what you get, components-wise: Rulebook 21 Double-Sided Section Tiles + Preorder Bonus Tile 1 Exam Hall Board 80 Book Cards 4 Player Figures 40 Player Markers 55 Tokens (40 Student, 15 Banana) 3 Faculty Standees (Ridcully, the Dean, and Senior Wrangler) Reiner Knizia, a legendary game designer behind some of the most iconic tabletop titles in recent years, including the Lord of the Rings co-op board game, Modern Art, Ra, and Medici, also designed the game. Odds are you've played a game he designed if you're into Eurogames. Discworld fans don't always get new releases these days, but this one will be hard to pass up, especially with the variety of library formats it offers.
