A DISCONTINUED 1970s Nestlé chocolate has returned to UK supermarket shelves after more than a decade. Shoppers will be able to enjoy six new treats as part of the sweet treat range – and you may just recognise their iconic film inspiration. The inventive sweet treats feature a chocolate shell stuffed with imaginative fillings, including Caramellion, Chocolonka, Magenta Elixir, and Choco Fizz. An early review from food blogger Newfoodsuk described “the bubblegum hat and the cola hat” as “absolutely incredible”. It continued: “Each hat is really good and has its own individualised flavour.” Most read in Money The new range also includes a Wonka Oompa Loompa Milk Chocolate Hollow Figurine, available for £4.50, recreating the beloved film characters with vibrant green hair and striking white brows. There’s also a Wonka Purplypurple Milk Chocolate Bar (£3.75) made of smooth milk chocolate with a caramel-flavoured milky filling – be warned, it’s purple inside! For anyone fancying a non-chocolate focused sweet snack, try the Wonka Magic Garden, a zingy lime-flavoured rope with a twist of lemon inside for £2.30. There’s also the Wonka Oompa Loompa Gummies featuring a selection of blueberry and strawberry-gummy treats oozing with a raspberry-cola liquid centre. The new collection also has a collaboration with a chocolate staple – Kinder Joy Egg – creating a sweet snack with smooth cocoa and milky cream layers, combined with crispy wafer bites. Inside, find exclusive Kinder Joy x Wonka Funko toys – including the coveted Golden Wonka. Wonka Bars were originally launched in the US by the Quaker Oats Company, with the company aiming to capitalise on the success of the first film version of the iconic Roald Dahl novel. They were pulled from shelves soon after, as the chocolate kept melting. In 1998, confectionery giant Nestlé bought the Wonka brand, releasing a string of the iconic bars and other candy products. Their arrival in the UK in 2005 coincided with the release of the film’s remake starring Johnny Depp, before the chocolate disappeared for eight years A short-lived relaunch came in 2013, but by 2014, declining sales and production issues saw the Wonka Bar disappear from supermarket shelves once again.
