Disclosure Day Sets Official Peacock Streaming Release Date

The director's last foray into the genre before Disclosure Day was 2018's Ready Player One. Eight years later, he returned to sci-fi with the release of Disclosure Day, which landed in theaters on June 12. The sci-fi thriller follows Emily Blunt's Margaret Fairchild, a meteorologist, who teams up with Josh O'Connor's Dr. Daniel Kellner, a cybersecurity specialist, to tell the world the truth about aliens and all that the government is hiding from them. Peacock has confirmed that Spielberg's Disclosure Day will arrive on the streaming service on October 9. The sci-fi thriller will join the long list of movies directed by Spielberg on the streaming service. Peacock's library of movies also includes projects like The Fabelmans, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Saving Private Ryan, War of the Worlds, Catch Me If You Can, and The Adventures of Tintin. Disclosure Day's streaming release a month from now comes nearly four months after the sci-fi thriller debuted on the big screen. Before that, Disclosure Day arrived on digital on July 20, and on Blu-ray, 4K UHD, and DVD on August 25. Disclosure Day's streaming performance on Peacock could be boosted by the sci-fi movie's positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, Disclosure Day holds a strong 79% critics' score, being Certified Fresh after 437 reviews, at the time of writing. Spielberg's new movie also possesses a positive audience score, which is at a decent 69% ahead of Disclosure Day's streaming debut on Peacock next month. The latter is likely to fluctuate immediately when the sci-fi movie arrives on the streaming service. Out of its 437 reviews, Disclosure Day got 347 Fresh ones and only 90 Rotten, having a 7.2 out of 10 average score. In ScreenRant's Disclosure Day review, critic Alex Harrison gave the sci-fi thriller an excellent 9 out of 10 score, saying, "Nobody does this better than Steven Spielberg." The writer praised the sci-fi master for a complex return to the genre that serves as an exploration of how humanity is lost and divided now, as well as how the world could come together again, all told through an alien lens. Harrison also spoke highly about Disclosure Day's star-studded cast, claiming that lead star Blunt rose above an impeccable group of thespians, as "what Emily Blunt does here is on another level." Despite the positive reviews, Disclosure Day ended up becoming a disappointment at the box office. Spielberg's new sci-fi movie ended its theatrical run with $241.3 million. Based on the film's reported production budget of $115 million, Disclosure Day needed to finish with a total between $230 million and $287.5 million just to break even.
