Director Kunal Kohli wants Tukaram Mundhe to raid home kitchens. Here's why

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli has a suggestion for Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe amid the department’s ongoing food safety drive. He requested Mundhe to take the checks inside Indian homes and kitchens too.Kohli shared a note on his Instagram story on Sunday, August 23, and urged Mundhe to inspect kitchen shelves and refrigerators, pointing out that many households may have expired food products that have been sitting untouched for years.“I request Tukaram Munde to raid kitchen shelves & refrigerators in Indian Households across the country. There will be expired items, from years ago, neatly & safely preserved, the bottles & packets wiped clean every month & put back on the shelf or refrigerator never to be used again,” he wrote (sic),” he wrote.Kohli also turned his suggestion into a challenge for social media users, encouraging them to inspect their own kitchens instead of waiting for an official check. “Chalo let’s do a Tukaram Munde cleaning of our kitchen shelves & refrigerator (sic),” he added.Kunal Kohli’s post comes at a time when the Maharashtra FDA is intensifying its food safety inspections across the state. The department has been carrying out checks at restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries and other establishments involved in preparing or selling food. The inspections have also extended to businesses supplying food through online delivery platforms. Authorities have taken action against establishments found violating food safety regulations, including issuing improvement notices and suspending licences in certain cases.The ongoing drive covers a range of food safety concerns, including adulterated milk, food served at restaurants and junk food sold in and around schools.
