Dinosaur Jr. has unveiled “Blowin’ Up,” the second single from their upcoming 13th studio album, There Near. One of two album tracks penned by Lou Barlow (and featuring the lo-fi god on vocals), “Blowin’ Up” doesn’t entirely share the fuzzy guitars and extra sunny vibes of lead single “Several Got Away.” It does, however, feature “pointed and timely attacks on our current regime,” according to a press release. With melodies that maintain a “friendly mien,” and lyrics that “cut like knives,” it sure sounds like the best version of Dinosaur Jr. Listen to it below. Find Dinosaur Jr. Tickets Here Due out August 28th via Jagjaguwar, There Near serves as Dinosaur Jr.’s first new album since 2021’s Sweep It Into Space. It was recorded over the course of a year at Bisquiteen Studio in Amherst, Massachusetts, by the core trio of J Mascis, Murph, and Barlow. Mascis played much of the album on a 70’s Mesa Boogie MK 1 amp, the same amp that engineer Chris Dixon had when they recorded their 1985 debut album. “You always hear how Rick Rubin always makes bands he’s producing sit down and listen to their first album and say let’s get back to that sound. So I just gave myself his advice,” Mascis said in a statement. As previously reported, Dinosaur Jr. will support the new LP with a fall 2026 US tour, including shows with Band of Horses.
