Yash may be one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars today, but his journey to the top began far away from the glamour of the film industry. Did you know he ran a provision store before finding success as an actor?The actor, born Naveen Gowda, opened up about his modest upbringing in a recent appearance on Aap Ki Adalat. The 40-year-old spoke about the moment he first became conscious of the difference between his family’s financial situation and that of his peers. He said he never felt that distinction during his school years, but things changed once he entered college.“Until school life, I never felt any difference between other kids and myself in terms of status or money. It was when I started going to college that I started to see the difference. Everybody in the college had their own bikes and cars. They had good clothes to wear. All I had was my father’s old scooter,” he recalled.“I had even started a provision store back then to support my family. I used to feel extremely embarrassed to ride the old scooter. Sometimes, when I had to stock up the store, I had to travel on that scooter. I used to feel an inferiority complex and would often think that nobody should see me like this. I used to be insecure about being seen like that by my friends,” he added. He then recalled that his parents were unable to build assets for the family, but stressed that they gave him something more valuable, life lessons and unwavering support.“My parents could never build any assets for us, but the sacrifices they made to teach us life values I am grateful for that. They always believed in me and gave me everything I needed,” he said.Meanwhile, Yash is looking forward to the release of his upcoming film Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. The movie, also starring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria, is slated to hit screens on August 26.
