General Motors, which has a history of providing presidential vehicles, declined to comment on the president's assertion. Published July 28, 2026 Rumors circulated online in July 2026 that U.S. President Donald Trump's administration purchased 250 Cadillac Escalades — a luxury SUV that retails for at least $91,000 — for the presidential motorcade. The claim spread online following the president's speech at General Motors' proving grounds facility in Milford, Michigan, on July 27. People on social media shared the rumor, claiming the president said his team "looks sharp" riding in Escalades and are "very spoiled." The popularity of the rumor led Snopes readers to reach out asking us to verify the claim. While Trump truly said his administration purchased 250 Escalades, we have not yet been able to independently verify that the transaction actually took place and, if so, that the number of vehicles specified was accurate. Because of that, we've left this claim unrated. A spokesperson for General Motors, Cadillac's parent company, declined to comment. We reached out to the Trump administration for confirmation that the White House actually purchased 250 Escalades and will update this article if we hear back. Trump's speech at the Milford GM plant can be viewed on YouTube. He made the comment in question at roughly 1:32:00: We ordered I think 250 Escalades, right? We ordered 250 Escalades. That's so we look sharp in those cavalcades, you know? We look sharp in those Escalades. Our guys are very spoiled. They're very spoiled, they like the Escalades. So do I. They were great to deal with. General Motors — they're making literally 250 of them and it was about time. The Cadillac website listed the starting price for the basic model of the Escalade at $91,100. While terms of any deal between the carmaker and the administration are unknown, 250 entry-level Escalades at the manufacturer's suggested retail price would amount to just shy of $23 million. Cadillac also made the custom presidential limo known as "The Beast," a term coined in 2001, according to GM. The company says it "designed the vehicle to the exacting standards of the U.S. Secret Service, while maintaining signature design cues from the Cadillac DeVille." Sources Brown, Bridget, et al.
